Welcome to The Celestial Nerd
Hello! My name is Belle and welcome to my little corner of the internet. Here, you’ll find cozy game reviews, guides, and more for platforms like the Nintendo Switch and PC. Keep reading to learn more about who I am and why I started this blog:
How Did The Celestial Nerd Start?
I’ve always liked writing, but I was never great at finding something to write about. I tried writing grand novels that would lose their way by chapter three (the world-building part was more fun, anyway). The only time I ever seemed to finish a piece was back in college when I’d be assigned some article or research paper; the research involved seemed to make the process more fun. I’d always loved learning new things, so that wasn’t too much of a surprise!
Keeping in mind my other hobbies, like video games, books, D&D, and nerd stuff in general…why not combine those with the fun of research and start a blog about them, right?
At this point, I likely would’ve started worrying about the whole, “If I start this blog, what the heck will my brand be?” thing. Thankfully, I’d already started being The Celestial Nerd on Instagram, as I had been exploring the world of aesthetically pleasing photography (using my iPhone XR to take photos, no less) so it was easy to pair that with the blog.
So, yeah, that’s where The Celestial Nerd came from; a mixture of my love for writing and nerdy things!
Why Cozy Games in Particular?
I’ve never liked being stressed out when playing video games. Honestly, I don’t know how those competitive League and Overwatch players do it! I’m just here to unwind, y’all! Even with some of my favorite classic RPGs, like Oblivion and Fable, I’d always play on the easiest settings because I was not about to feel anxious when having a good time (I deal with that enough on a day-to-day basis).
The great thing about the cozy genre is that, even when there is combat and grand adventure, I’m never worried that something tragically bad will happen to my character or that, with one little mistake, I’ll lose everything. I just do fun, creative stuff, like building a farm or befriending cute animals or whatever.
So, I want to share that feeling with all of you!
Granted, I don’t expect that I’ll always talk about games that fit squarely into the genre – some of my favorite games, like Sid Meier’s Pirates and Skyrim are definitely not cozy. However, they still bring me great comfort, so why not talk about them, right?
