Now that to spookiest day of the year is coming up, that urge to brew magical potions is coming up more than ever. While we, unfortunately, can’t make potions in real life, we definitely can in video games. So, keep reading to learn about these cozy witch games to play if you’re hoping to have a potion-filled Halloween!
Double, double, toil, and trouble…okay, I’ve never seen Macbeth (which is shameful as an ex-theatre kid), but I guarantee that even the most Shakespeare-averse know that line.
And hey, that phrase is appropriate now more than ever because it’s almost Halloween! While a lot of people love to dress up as zombies, pumpkins, or sexy versions of non-sexy occupations, I’ve always been partial to dressing like a witch. A cute witch, but still.
Perhaps that’s because I’ve always secretly wanted to go to Hogwarts, or maybe it’s because I wear all black anyway so it’s not a difficult costume to toss together…Either way, getting into that whole ‘I’m gonna cast a sparkly little spell on you’ vibe is so fun for me.
But, are there more ways to get into the magical spirit than just getting into a costume? I mean, it might be a little awkward to wear a pointy hat and drag a cauldron around on a daily basis (this may be shocking, but cauldrons are incredibly impractical).
Well…yeah, there is. Video games, silly! In video games, especially the cozy ones I love (thus why this blog exists), you can escape to a whole ‘nother world that doesn’t exist in real life, witch vibes included.

Though, when I play witch-themed games, I seem to be extra partial to the ones where I make stuff. That’s, like, the best part of being a magical witch anyway, right? Making crazy potions that can help your friends or totally eradicate your enemies? I guess I should’ve become a chemist, but I don’t think they combine random chemicals all day in the hopes of turning people into frogs (any real-life chemists can let me know if that actually is the case).
Hey…maybe you love to get into the magical spirit, too. Or, maybe, you just want to make a bunch of magical soups that definitely don’t exist in real life. I respect that, I do. Or, maybe you just want to celebrate Halloween in the way you know best: gaming! Fair enough, just be sure to have a bowl of candy with you while you play (candy is essential for Halloween).
So, if you’re looking for cozy games with a witch-centered vibe look no further. I’ve found 6 that should be able to tickle your fancy! Or maybe I should say ‘stir your cauldron’? ‘Brew your potions’? You know what I mean…
6 Witchy Potion-Making Games to Play This Halloween
1. Potion Permit
ESRB: E
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch
In Potion Permit, the inhabitants of Moonbury require healing. Thankfully, you’re renowned as the finest alchemist in the vicinity! Equipped with your reliable instruments, a bubbling cauldron, and an adorable canine companion by your side, your job is to diagnose ailments, collect components, concoct elixirs, and provide remedies to the townsfolk…all while uncovering secrets of your own.
Potion Permit’s become very popular over the last year or so, and it’s easy to understand why – it’s as if Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon (or some other farming sim) had a very magical baby! So if you like cozy farm-themed games, but with a witchy twist, you’ll love this.
2. Wytchwood
ESRB: E10+
Platform(s): Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Wytchwood is a crafting-based RPG set in a land of gothic fables. As the local old hag (I say this in the DnD-loving way), venture into an unfamiliar countryside, gather mystical components, concoct magical spells, and render verdicts upon a whimsical ensemble of individuals.
Unlike a lot of witch games these days, Wytchwood showcases a less cutesy art style, instead drawing inspiration from old storybooks. So, if you’ve been wanting to play as a witch that’s more scary than smiley (I use scary loosely, though, as this isn’t a horror game by any means) you’ll love this one.
3. Potion Craft
ESRB: E10+
Platform(s): Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nintendo Switch
In Potion Craft, people have problems, and sometimes, they need to solve those problems through a visit to your shop!
True to its name, you create potions by physically interacting with your tools and various magical ingredients. As in, you literally crush up the ingredients, stir, cook, etc. You’re also in full control of the whole shop: garden, invent new funky recipes, and barter with potential customers to achieve success.
4. Spellcaster University
ESRB: E
Platform(s): Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch
In Spellcaster University, you get to build a prestigious university for the best and brightest mages. Of course, starting a college from scratch is no easy task: you’re expected to build classrooms, train your students (there’s a potion-making class so it counts for this list), fight off invading monsters (maybe they have an issue with your school not letting orcs in as students), and, most horrifyingly, manage your budget. Gross! Bills! Finances!
Seriously, though, this cozy tycoon is great for anyone who’s ever wanted to start their own school without all the red tape involved with creating one in real life. Oh, but with a magical twist.
5. Potionomics
ESRB: E10+
Platform(s): Windows
This may be shocking to hear, but yes, Potionomics does have an element of, well, economics in it! Basically, you’ve inherited your uncle’s potion shop—and a huge debt. Gee, thanks. So, you’d better start making some magical brews ASAP! Though you’d better do a good job on that front…there’s always a chance that you’ll make some nasty, nasty potions. No one’s gonna want to buy those!
Aside from potion-making and dealing with the crippling reality of debt management (spooky), you can customize your store, hire people to gather ingredients (finally, a game where you don’t have to do it yourself), learn new haggling strategies from fellow vendors, and scare away the competition. We’re gonna be the only potion shop in town, punk!
6. Witchy Life Story
ESRB: T
Platform(s): Windows, Nintendo Switch
In Witchy Life Story, your character has only two weeks to save the harvest festival. And there’s only one way you, as the village witch, can help…creating spells! By tending your garden and creating potions, incense, and charms, you can tend to the various problems of the villagers of Flora. Oh, and there may or may not be a little romance sprinkled in…hehe!
Out of the games on this list, not only have I played it very recently, but I also personally dub the coziest witch game of all. While Witchy Life Story is already available to play on PC, it releases for Switch on October 19th. So, you Nintendo fans will get a chance to experience this cute story very soon!
